aTV Flash Black brings Web Browser and Last.Fm to Apple TV 2G

Fire Core has just released the first beat version of aTV Flash (Black) for the Apple TV 2G device. The software suite includes support for both a web browser and a Last.fm application. The web browser is called Couch Surfer and it will support most browsing functions and some plugins in the future.

For those of you who don’t know what aTV Flash is all about:

aTV Flash is a user-friendly software package that supercharges your AppleTV, unleashing a plethora of new functionality. Don’t worry about the technical details – aTV Flash is simple to use and safe for your AppleTV. Installation is a snap and doesn’t require any physical changes to the AppleTV.

The aTV Flash (Black) beta has been updated to bring most of its functionality to the AppleTV 2G, Such as

● Surf the Web – Experience the web in all its glory and stream HTML5 video from many popular sites (note: not all HTML5 sites supported yet).
● Discover New Music – Find new artists you’ll love by accessing Last.fm radio stations, artist bios and slideshows.
● Plex Client – Stream media from Plex Server running on your Mac. (big thanks to quiqueck for putting this together)
● Info on Demand – Keep track of current weather and news feeds on your AppleTV.
● One-click Updates – Install, remove or update plugins in a snap through the native AppleTV interface.

Fire Core plans to add the following features in the future:

• Go Beyond iTunes – Enable playback of additional media formats.
• Access Media Anywhere – Stream media from most NAS devices.

Last.fm for AppleTV 2G

All you need is a jailbroken AppleTV 2G on iOS 4.1 and the aTV Flash Black software. Currently, The beta version is only compatible with iOS 4. According to the developers of aTV, iOS 4.1 compatible version is going to release very soon.

While the software is still in beta, you can buy it at a discounted price of $19.95.If you have already bought aTV Flash for your old Apple TV then you can get aTV Flash (black) as a free upgrade.
