Developer @sbingner (author of TetherMe) has released SAM and SAMPrefs tweaks to bypass iPhone activation system which allows iPhone users to officially activate iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS without Stock SIM.
Subscriber Artificial Module (SAM) tricks your iPhone and iTunes into creating legitimate activation tickets even though you’re unlocked with Ultrasn0w tool. This means you get the full benefit of push applications. And this method enables fully working Push Notifications on your iPhone and also fixes the excessive battery drainage issue encountered using other unofficial methods.
iPhone Dev Team has also released an update to Redsn0w 0.9.6 beta 6 version, to make it easier to switch to the SAM method. The jailbreak tool now includes the option Deactivate the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS.

How to Install SAM & official activation on an iPhone 3G, 3GS without a stock SIM
1. First Launch Cydia on your iPhone, Go to Manage > Sources > Edit > Add. And add the following repository:
http://repo.bingner.com
2. Install “SAM” and “SAMPrefs” from the bingner repo.
3. After that download and Launch Redsn0w 09.6b6 tool.
4. Select the new item Deactivate and continue. This will allow your iPhone to revert back to a stock lockdown and allow SAM to take over.
5. After the process, Go to the Settings of your iPhone, select SAM and click on De-Activate iPhone.
6. Open iTunes and connect your iPhone, wait for iTunes to officially activate your iPhone. When is is done, you will get the confirmation message, “iPhone is activated”.
Now you are done and your iPhone is officially activated without SIM card.

I have a problem with regards to activation. I did already the steps but sadly I can’t activate my iPhone 3G with SAM thru iTunes…any troubleshooting techniques aside from turning off the unit or installing other apps? I did it already but didn’t worked out..thanks!
