AirPlayer – Stream Video from iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad to your Mac

Here is a good news for Mac OS X users. Now they can enable the iOS 4.2.1 feature AirPlay from iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad to Mac using a new app called AirPlayer. AirPlayer allows you to stream video from your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad with AirPlay to your Mac OS system exactly like you would do to your Apple TV.

Erica Sadun of TUAW has released this application for Mac OS X. Few days back Erica Sadun has also released a jailbreak app which activates AirPlay via third party apps.

Erica Says,

What AirPlayer does is create and advertise a custom Bonjour AirPlay service that pretends to be an Apple TV. Bonjour is Apple’s zero configuration networking solution for allowing devices and applications to communicate with each other over local area networks. When Apple created AirPlay, it basically set up a new way for Apple TV to interact with iOS using Bonjour communications.

The best thing is, you don’t need to jailbreak your iOS device to use this hack. You just need a iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running iOS 4.2.1 and a Mac running the AirPlayer and you can start streaming videos to your Mac from your iDevice.

How to to stream video from iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad to your Mac with AirPlay

1. Download the AirPlayer for Mac and launch it

2. Click the Start AirPlay Service button and you should see the message Bonjour AirPlay Service Established. You may now connect from an iOS device.

3. On your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch open a video from the Videos app or YouTube.

4. You will see the AirPlay icon, tap it and choose your Mac from the list of AirPlay enabled devies.

Your connected Mac will now start to stream that video through the AirPlayer.
