Generally, people use to make webpages with url like http://www. website.com/contact. In this case, a server try to open this link and also to figure out what kind of webpage is contained on this adress. This process take some times of your sever and make it to responce a little slower to your website.
It is recommended to place a slash “/”after that main directory or the root directory to speed-up the process. This tells server to stop there and the related website will be opened faster. So, in this case, the url address of webpage would be like: http://www.website.com/contact/.
If the url you are referencing is a file, then you don’t need this slash. For example:- http://www.website.com/about_me.html
So this does not end with a slash.
This thing is very tiny and it would not give you the unbelievable improvement in speed. But still its very significant to us.
