Recently, the iPhone Dev-Team has updated the Redsn0w tool and ported back the Monte technique to the iOS 4.1 kernel. MuscleNerd has announced that the iPhone Dev-team has successfully ported the new important feature (Monte) to Redsn0w, which will now allow you to untethered jailbreak iOS 4.1 without the need of iOS 4.2b3 SHSH blobs, you will need iOS 4.1 SHSH blobs.
Monte is not an exploit, it’s a technique based on using the iOS 4.1 exploit into iOS 4.2.1.
Ported Monte back to 4.1 kernel (SHSH blobs). Next step: porting it forward to 4.3beta!
Think of Monte as a “green” jailbreak. It recycles (for example) 4.1′s exact JB exploit on 4.2.1
Waste no exploits.
According to this tweet, you only need iOS 4.1 SHSH blobs saved to untether your jailbreak using Monte’s technique. Where iOS 4.2b3 SHSH blobs were required which was found for the developers only. so releasing it now before the official release for iOS 4.3 won’t waste any exploits. So the dev-team may release it soon.
The iPhone Dev-Team has also revealed that they are planning to port the Monte technique on the recently seeded iOS 4.3 Beta.
On the other side, the Chronic Dev-team is also working hard now to release Greenpois0n Tool to untethered iOS 4.2.1 devices, see the full details posted here.

I’m still holding out for Greenpois0n, I guess. My new iPhone 4 came pre-installed with 4.2.1, so no 4.1 SHSH blobs exist for this phone. I’m still holding on to my old pwned 3GS, already on 4.2.1 because of the old bootrom; I bet it will be worth $$$ some day. I’ve been spoiled by it though.
Sorry, but I think Dev-team had this ability all along, just kept it at 4.2b3 so the majority wouldn’t have it until they wanted to release it. I think it’s very entertaining. I thank all these developers immensely. I can barely understand this stuff, and they make it so user-friendly. It’s a thankless job, I’m sure, so I’m glad there’s competition. Keep up the good work, guys. Hopefully you can find a way to jb my new iPhone, too.
