How to Switch Back to Old Style Facebook Photo Viewer

February 20, 2011

Recently, Facebook has rolled out its new designed photo viewer to users. It is apparently called “Facebook PhotoTheater”. The new image viewer displays images in a Lightbox fashion with a black background.

Facebook claims that by redesigning the Photo Viewer, users now view over 5% more photos, equating to an increase in roughly a billion photo views every day.

However, some users still prefers the old-classic photo viewer without that annoying black pop-up slideshow.

To switch back to old viewer, all you have to do is to press the “F5” function key on the keyboard when viewing the photo in the new Photo Viewer layout. This will reload/Refresh the page and you will see the classic Facebook Photo Viewer.

Alternatively, if you are using the Google Chrome browser, there’s a extension called “Revert Facebook Photo Viewer” that reverts the Facebook photo viewer to the old version. Just install the extension and you will see a notification at top-left corner, and you are done.
