Microsoft’s Kinect for Xbox 360 has been awarded the fastest selling consumer electronics device by the Guinness World Records. The company sold an average of 133,333 Kinect units per day beetween November 4, 2010 and January 3, 2011, and reached 8 million units sell just in 2 months.
With this outstanding sales figures, Microsoft Kinect beat both iPhone & iPad for the equivalent periods after launch.
The Kinect motion sensing controller uses a 3D camera and motion recognition software that allows users to play Xbox 360 games using just their natural body movements and voice commands, as opposed to hand-held controllers.
Gaz Deaves, Editor of Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer’s Edition, said:
The sales figures here speak for themselves. We can confirm that no other consumer electronics device sold faster within a 60-day time span, an incredible achievement considering the strength of the sector.
Microsoft has already sold more than 10 million Kinect units for the Xbox 360 to retailers. The world record for the Kinect will be included in the next Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition book which will be available early next year.
