Limera1n and SHAtter exploits Patched by Apple in iPad 2

All those waiting to jailbreak their iPad 2 on iOS 4.3, here is a disappointing news for them. The iPhone hackers, iH8sn0w and MuscleNerd has just confirmed on Twitter that Geohot’s Limera1n exploit has been patched by Apple in the just released iPad 2.

iH8sn0w: Confirmed: limera1n is patched in iPad 2.

For those who don’t know, all the latest jailbreak tools are using the Limera1n exploit. Limer1n, a bootrom based exploit found by Geohot (a.k.a George Hotz), and later it was used in GreenPois0n, PwnageTool, Redsn0w and Sn0wbreeze tools to jailbreak Apple devices on iOS 4.1, iOS 4.2 & iOS 4.3 GM firmware.

So it means you won’t be able to jailbreak your iPad 2 with all these jailbreak tool.

Even, MuscleNerd also announced, the early testing of SHAtter shows that Chronic Dev Team’s SHAtter exploit has also been fixed by Apple engineers in iPad 2.

Early testing also seems to show at least one thing SHAtter depends on was gone by March 2010 too

Since Limera1n and SHAtter, both were boot level exploits, Apple has changed the hardware in iPad 2 to fix the both the exploits.

In addition to this, Comex has also confirmed that his best kernel bug has also been closed in the iOS 4.3 firmware update.

So now the only way to jailbreak iPad 2 is to discover a new bootrom exploit or use some userland exploit (browser based) such as Spirit and JailbreakMe tools.
