Lockitron – Wirelessly Lock and Unlock your Door using Smartphone

Lockitron is a cool solution that combines hardware and software, and allows you to wirelessly unlock or lock your doors from anywhere in the world, using iPhone or any internet enabled smartphone. Lockitron is backed by Y-combinator.

Lockitron system is very convenient and easy to use, you just have to install a small device inside our door and than there is an iPhone application to send a signal to Lockitron servers. Then the servers relay that signal to a small device that plugs into your internet router to open the door.

Lockitron app also comes with a text messaging feature ($5 per month), which allows users to lock or unlock their door using any mobile phone by sending a text message.

More interestingly, If you have a Nexus S, you can lock or unlock your Lockitron enabled door simply by waving your phone over an NFC tag with the pending release of the native Android app, without using keys.

It can be very useful to check if this door is open or not, or you can also give access to your house for family, friends when you are away.

Currently Lockitron is available for US users and costs between $295 and $500. You can get it from Lockitron website.
